“NITTO” R34 GT-R – 1072HP at all 4 Wheels!!

This Nissan R34 GT-R is Mercury Motorsport’s flagship and is owned by Trent and Tess, the owners of Mercury. Currently, this beast is one of the most powerful GTR’s in Australia, with the Mercury Motorsport/Red R Racing team building it to put out its best power figure of a whopping 1072awhp to date!

At the recent Powercruise #25 2010 Qld event, NITTO not only took out the 6-Cylinder Forced class but also took out Highest Overall Horsepower with 1014hp at the rear wheels– putting a LOT of V8’s to shame!! Then, 1 month later at the more recent Auto Salon Gold Coast 2010 event, NITTO came 2nd in the 6-Cylinder Forced class and also 2nd Highest Overall Horsepower, putting out the abovementioned 1072hp at all 4 wheels (without the assistance of nitrous).

So, what does NITTO have under the bonnet? A lot of the internal engine specs are ‘hush-hush’, however we can tell you the following modifications:

  • The RB26 N1 block has been fully modified/strengthened to Mercury Motorsport/Red R Racing-specs to be able to handle extreme horsepower. It has been fitted with a very high quality 2.7litre Nitto Performance Engineering stroker kit – which comprises of pistons/rings, I-Beam rods & a full counterweight billet crankshaft.
  • The Red R Racing head has been fitted with custom Mercury Motorsport-spec cams, Nitto oversized valves and Tomei lifters & valve springs.
  • The huge turbocharger is a Garrett GT4718R item, which is teamed with a 6Boost exhaust manifold and Turbosmart 60mm external wastegate.
  • A 90mm Hypertune throttle body and Hypertune plenum are also used.
  • Mercury Motorsport’s own fabricator, Luke, not only custom-fabricated the alloy piping for the 150mm thick A’PEXi intercooler, he also fabricated the complete 5”-4” exhaust system.
  • ECU of choice is an Autronic SM4 + Autronic CDI, which have been teamed with Mercury Marine outboard coilpacks.
  • Fuel system comprises of 6 x 2000cc Injector Dynamics injectors, Hypertune fuel rail, Magnafuel Pro Tuner 750 fuel pumps, custom Mercury Motorsport-fabricated surge tank with braided lines and Speedflow fittings.

NITTO’s engine combination is a result of careful planning between Trent (from Mercury Motorsport), Paul (from Red R Racing) and Andrew (from Nitto Performance Engineering). Every detail, tolerance and component was selected with the intention of making outright horsepower, and that intention has been achieved!
